For Week commencing 26th February

Dear Parents,

What a lovely week we have had with the children with some excellent learning.

We have sadly had a few children off with different illnesses this week. As we have a child in nursery with a weakened immune system could we please ask parents to be really vigilant about bringing children into school with suspected illnesses. If you are aware of your child being unwell please let school know as soon as possible.

Thursday 1st March is World book day so we are inviting children to bring in their favourite picture books to share with their friends. We will try and read as many as possible but we can also continue on Friday if we run out of time! We also thought it might be a nice idea to bring back our ‘Mystery reader’ slot to coincide with World Book day. If any parents would like to come in and read on Thursday morning, please send Mrs Wells an email; zoe.wells@charltonono.co.uk. If you cannot do Thursday we welcome mystery readers any day of the week- please get in touch!

In preparation for Mother’s day, please could we ask that all children have a photograph of their mum in school. Please can these be in by Friday 2nd March ready for use the following week.

Reception children have had new homework grids stuck into their homework books this week for the term ahead. We recommend that a piece is completed each week.

Before World Book day the children will be listening to and sequencing the story; ‘Jaspers Beanstalk’ and planting beans. The reception children will be writing down changes they see happening to their beans in bean diaries. The children will also be helping change the role play area into a farm shop!

In Phonics the nursery children will be looking at listening to the individual sounds in words as they learn to segment and blend sounds. You can support this learning at home by sounding out words for children to guess. For example, ‘can you touch your f-ee-t?’ ‘We are going to the sh-o-p!’

Reception parents please see your child’s reading record for the sounds they will learning in phonics.

We will be completing assessments on the children in Maths next week to see how they are progressing with their number knowledge.

As we look toward parents evening happening in a few weeks we just wanted to let you know that Mrs Oliver will be present on Tuesday 13th March for appointments and Mrs Wells on Wednesday 14th March . This is so you can make an appointment with the most relevant teacher.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Mrs Oliver and Mrs Wells
