Autumn Term Year 1/2
Welcome back. I hope you had a lovely summer holiday and are ready for the term ahead.
Myself and Mrs. Vickers are looking forward to welcoming your child into our loving and nurturing fold.
Autumn term curriculum
This term the topic across the whole school is ‘Paint a picture’. In Year 1 and 2 we will be basing our Literacy work around Katie Morag and the Artists. Throughout our art sessions we will be studying L.S Lowy, but also incorporating aspects we have learnt through Katie Morag. Alongside this the children will experiment with different mediums and colour mixing. During our science sessions the children will investigate their senses. Please can I request that the children bring in a photo of themselves as a baby.
During the latter half of Autumn term, the whole school topic is ‘Alien invasion. The children will start their adventure by working with the book ‘Aliens Love Underpants.’
Reading and homework
The children will have homework and spellings sent home with them this Friday. These books will be in a folder and please can I ask that spelling books are brought to school every day. Spelling tests will be on Friday and new spellings allocated for the following week. Homework will be collected in on a Wednesday and returned on a Thursday.
Your child will also be issued with a reading book as quickly as we can (hopefully before Friday). Your child will also have a Reading Record Book, please can I ask that every time you read with your child that you date and state the page number they have read to or whether the book is finished. Book changing days will be on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The children will hopefully get used to putting their own book bag in the box for changing but for any reason they slip through the net please don’t hesitate to tell me. We are also happy to change books on other days if your child is a super speedy reader.
PE will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Your child needs to have named kit in on these days otherwise they will not be able to participate. Girls with long hair need to either have it tied up or keep a hair bobble in their kit bag. If the weather is good, we will have P.E outside so children need outdoor sports shoes. The children will keep their kits in school for the term.
The children are asked to bring a water bottle into school everyday and are encouraged to drink to stay fully hydrated and healthy.
Please can I ask that every item of clothing is named as sweatshirts and cardigans are quite often left where taken off and finding the right owner can sometimes become a dilemma!
Your child’s happiness is very important to myself and Mrs. Vickers and so if you have any concerns please come and talk to me.
