Spring Term 2018

Dear Parent,

Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely festive two weeks.

Spring Term

This term our topic is the rainforest. We will be starting the topic off with a project morning transforming the classroom into a rainforest. In English, we will be reading ‘Journey to the river sea’ by Eva Ibbotson (another book from the 100 books to read before you leave year 6). In Science, we will be learning about habitats, living things and their life cycle and in Geography we will be learning about biomes and vegetation belts. I am hoping to organise a trip to the Living Rainforest towards the end of the term. This term I will be joined by a student teacher from Oxford Brookes called Ms Everatt. It will be fantastic to have another adult working with us in the classroom.

Spellings and homework

I will issue your child with their new homework grid on Friday 5th and test their spellings on Friday 12th January 2018.

100 books to read before you leave year 6

Please encourage your child to choose books from the 100-book list when they have finished reading a collection from a favourite author. We have some of the 100 books in the classroom or you can borrow them from an Oxfordshire library.

PE

PE will be on Thursday for those children who are not going swimming. Your child needs to have named kit in on this day otherwise they will not be able to participate. Girls with long hair need to either have it tied up or keep a hair bobble in their kit bag and earrings need to be removed.

Prince William Trust

We are embarking on the next phase of activities with Susanna our Skill Force leader. If the weather is dry we try to get outside as much as possible on a Friday morning so please ensure your child has a warm coat.

 Best wishes,
